Q: When can I plant my peas, how do I harvest & when do I know they are done for the season?

We have been getting a lot of questions about pea plants lately so here is our Pea Q & A.

How often should I be picking peas? In short, everyday.  The pea season is quick and peas left on the vine will become tough and fibrous.

I heard you can eat the whole plant, is that true?  Yes, you can eat the peas, flowers and pea tendrils.  Just remember if you eat the flower and tendril, you will not get any actual peas.  Some gardeners grow extra pea plants to harvest the flowers and tendrils.

Can I plant peas during the summer?  No, peas like cool weather.  They do best when planted in the early spring or again in early fall.

What do I do once my pea plant stops producing peas?  Once the pea plant is done, it's done.  Pull it and replant with more cucumber, green beans or mini pumpkins.

Do Peas really love Parsley?  We thought you would never ask... yes they really do love each other.  Peas provide loads of nitrogen to the soil which parsley plants love.  And in return, parsley is said to repel beetles and other harmful garden insects.
